Private physician house calls in Munich follow a legally binding fee schedule — the GOÄ. Here's how it works, what to expect, and how reimbursement happens.
GOÄ — Gebührenordnung für Ärzte — is the official German fee schedule for private medical services. It lists every service (Ziffer) with a base fee (Einfachsatz). Physicians may apply a factor (typically 1.0, 1.8, 2.3, or up to 3.5×) depending on complexity and time commitment. The factor must be justified on the invoice.
A standard home visit in Munich combines several GOÄ codes:
Total: typically ab 180 €. Higher end applies to complex cases with IV, ECG, multiple rapid tests and out-of-hours surcharges.
Most PKV tariffs reimburse house calls in full (100 %). You receive our invoice, pay within 14 days, submit to your insurer, and receive reimbursement. Ask your insurer what factor they reimburse as standard (1.8× and 2.3× are almost always accepted; higher factors may need justification).
Civil servants (Beamte) and their families receive 50–80 % from the Beihilfestelle; the remainder is covered by supplementary PKV.
You pay directly. The invoice is tax-deductible as an extraordinary expense (außergewöhnliche Belastung) on your income tax return.
Most major policies (AXA, Allianz, Bupa, Cigna, Anthem, World Nomads, Mawista, Care Concept) accept detailed GOÄ invoices. We can issue an English translation of the invoice free of charge.
Evening visit in Schwabing, duration ~30 min, cold with sore throat:
Total: approx. 120–160 €. A visit with IV infusion, ECG, and weekend surcharge can reach 300+ €.

For elective visits (vitamin infusion, check-up) yes. For acute illness, we give a range based on expected findings.
Self-pay invoices qualify as extraordinary expenses (außergewöhnliche Belastung) in German income tax.
