Notable: Messe München, Riem Arcaden, Willy-Brandt-Platz. Medical: Klinikum rechts der Isar (TUM) via U2, München Klinik Bogenhausen.
Messestadt Riem lies in Munich's east on the former Munich-Riem airport site and is today one of the largest contiguous new-build districts in the city. From the centre we reach Messestadt in 25 to 40 minutes — depending on time of day and fair activity. The main approach is the A94 motorway (exit 4 Messestadt Ost or exit 5 Feldkirchen-West). From the north we arrive via Töginger Straße from Bogenhausen, from the south via Schatzbogenstraße from Trudering. Inside Messestadt, Willy-Brandt-Allee and Olof-Palme-Straße lead to all residential quarters and to the fair.
Public transport: Messestadt is exceptionally well served by the U2 metro with its terminal stations Messestadt West and Messestadt Ost — travel time from the main station is under 20 minutes. Bus routes 139, 183, 188, and 189 serve the residential areas and connect to Riem S-Bahn station (S2). Parking in the residential quarters is uncomplicated — most apartment complexes have underground garages and visitor spaces. Around the fairgrounds, parking guidance systems and higher fees apply during fair periods; we use visitor approaches and short-term stops directly at hotel and residential entrances.
Messestadt has two patient groups with different needs: international fair guests and business travellers in the hotels, plus residents of the young new-build quarters. We frequently treat travel-related gastrointestinal infections — the classic aftermath of long flights, changing meals, and stressful fair days. We treat with antiemetics, IV rehydration, and, for persistent symptoms, laboratory workup directly in the hotel room.
Equally common are migraine and tension headache attacks, which follow intense fair days, jet lag, and dehydration — IV infusion therapy with targeted pain relief on site often helps. And flu and cold infections: international guests often bring viral infections from other climate zones that rapidly become symptomatic under jet lag and stress.
For orientation: two hospitals are available for acute emergencies in the immediate vicinity. Klinikum München Ost (kbo-Isar-Amper-Klinikum) in Haar, about 5 km to the east, and Krankenhaus Neuperlach of München Klinik, about 6 km to the south, with an interdisciplinary emergency department. For university-level maximum care, we reach the Klinikum rechts der Isar of TUM via the A94 motorway and the Mittlerer Ring quickly. If inpatient care becomes necessary during a house call, we coordinate admission and hand all findings directly to the receiving hospital.
